Dark bleatings everyone! Little Spooks is indeed a collection of “little” spooks – it’s 30 horror drabbles. It’s a super quick and fun read, and here are some thoughts on/summaries of each bite-sized nightmare.
THE BAD CHILD: Is there anything more disturbing than the continuous crying of a small child?
THE EYES HAVE IT: Collecting things is pretty normal, right?…. RIGHT?!
COFFIN MATES: As if waking up in your own coffin isn’t bad enough…
THE EARLY BIRD IS THE WORM: Jeez… all they wanted was a nice meal!
A HELLISH DESCENT: Everyone needs someone to catch them when they fall.
STITCHING UP THE MOURNING: I wish I knew how to make my own clothes.
TO FEED A MONSTER: Well, if that isn’t friendship, I don’t know what is!
MR. SANDMAN, BRING ME A SCREAM: I never trusted that guy.
RODENT SLURPS: A man betrayed by his wife gets revenge!
HOTEL SILK: No no NO NO GODDAMNIT NO!
SKIN PEELER: That’s a bad way to go. This is my favourite drabble.
I AM SIN: Ever wondered what Hell is like?
POISON HEART: Well, if you can’t find the right man….
THE PORCUPINE MAN: The lesson here is cheating is bad.
DEAD STARE: Another favourite. That awkward moment when you go creeping but you’re not the creepiest creep.

DEATH RATTLES: I’ve always hated rocking chairs for exactly this reason.
DEAD GIRL SPEAK: All the nope.
DOLLFACE: And more nope.
BLOOD WINE: It’s a hard age, okay?
NIGHT TERROR: Jesus Christ. Or, you know, the other one.
AMANDA: It’s a bit chilly under the covers tonight.
LAB RATS: Creature feature.
I’M HERE: So needy.
DESOLUTION: Well, that turned out to be quite peaceful, actually!
VICTORIA’S SONG: She just can’t let things go, can she?
SOMETHING INSIDE: Oh god. That’s unfortunate.
NIGHT SONG: Giant bug.
CIMMERIAN SHADE: Pretty spooky!
DAWN OF MOURNING: This is why you should always wear sunscreen.
DINNER BELL: Look at this distinguished gentleman!
To summarise, this is an enjoyable collection of teeny tiny drabbles. If I have one complaint, it’s that I would have liked more drabbles. Dare I say… maybe like, 100 drabbles. I actually think this book would be great for a writers’ group or class to use as inspiration or jumping off points for longer fiction.
