The Sinister Horror Company – Book Recommendations for Novella November

Dark bleatings everyone! We’re posting nothing but novellas this month, and today I’ve got 3 recommendations for you, all from the Sinister Horror Company. I’m spotlighting this fabulous indie press in this post because, much to the devastation of the horror community, SHC is closing its doors. It’s had a great run and produced such great work, and we will miss it. However, grandmaster of SHC – Justin Park – is moving on to other passions, and it’s time for a change. Justin – we love you and though we’ll miss your book releases, we wish you all the best in your new ventures and we can’t wait to see what you do next!

So, with that said, first up, let me tell you a little about one of my favourite books of all time…

I’ve been going on about this book for years to anyone that will listen to me rave about it. It’s an absolute gem of a vampire story and it deserves a lot more people…. sinking their teeth…. into it. Hehe. If you prefer your vampires less like those in TVD, and more like those in 30 Days of Night, check this out.

In a town in southern England, people are going missing. Mason, a homeless ex-con, arrives in the town to beg his wife for a second chance and atone for past mistakes. A vampire god once worshipped by ancient Britons has awoken from hibernation and plans to turn Great Britain into a vampire isle. But first, people of the town must be converted, and the gospel spread. Within a week, the town is quarantined by the military, and the nights belong to the undead. There will be no escape for the survivors.

Next up…

This is a bizarre, transgressive, and head-scratcher of a sci-fi horror novella. Feast your eyes on some awesome illustrations, as you feast your imagination on a beautifully written work. I was intrigued, entertained, sometimes a little confused, and overall found this pretty unique. If you’re looking for something different that packs a lot to think about in to a short timeframe, give this a whirl.

My bones feel new, brittle. You won’t have heard any apocryphal stories about me because no one seems to know anything about me. My body is a sheet of paper from a worn manuscript, folded into the origami shape of a man. My life has been stuffed into a satchel and carried to publishers. Its words are my words.

He has no name. He belongs to no race or nation. He has no definable personality or allegiance. Only the dead city of mirrors holds the key.

And lastly…

Hey, you guys like creepy ghost-like stuff? Enjoy maritime horror? Like weird as f*** occurrences and things that will give you nightmares? Then maybe give this one a go. Feel-wise, it has shades of Event Horizon but on a sea ship instead of on a space ship.

1944, The Malacca Straights; Blood slicks the deck of a Japanese ship as a terrible ritual is enacting to aid the failing Imperial Forces against the Allies. The ritual rends the very fabric of our world giving access to another realm beyond the ken of man.

Nine survivors from the torpedoed Empire Carew are left adrift in a lifeboat but after weeks in the water they find haven on an abandoned ship they find floating in a strange fog – The Shinjuku Maru.

Nine souls are heading straight for hell.

The Shinjuku Maru has been there before…

If you want to snap any of these up, you better move fast because they’ll all be going out of print very shortly. You can get them from amazon or directly from SHC, and the links are all below:
