Garrett was an ordinary New Yorker, appeasing annoying neighbors and paying over-inflated rent for a dumpy apartment in Hell’s Kitchen. That is…
Until the larvae hatched.
As the end of the year draws near, Garrett unleashes his violent wrath upon the city of Manhattan. NYPD officers Luca Han and Mel Tredo are on a mission to find the depraved lunatic before he can kill again. Can they capture the homicidal madman in the surging sea of potential victims before the ball drops in Times Square?
Writhe is a hyper-violent, extreme horror novella and is not intended for the faint of heart. This gory splatterpunk tale is brought to you by the twisted real-life sisters behind Vanity Kills, Bad God’s Tower, and The Illuminator Saga.
Dark bleatings, my wiggly tribe! Writhe is a novella about Garrett, a nice enough guy that lives alone in a crappy apartment, plodding along with life. One unfortunate day, against his better judgment, he agrees to look after his landlord’s heinous little punk of a son, in return for a discount on his extortionate rent. He’s having a nap, when said heinous little punk puts a worm in his ear… and then… things go violently awry.
Firstly, these characters are great. They’re so distinctive – we’ve got Garrett, our average, but cool, protagonist. The kid is an absolute dickbag, the landlord is a wheeler dealer posing as a nice guy, and we’ve got Garrett’s best friend, Mike, who is funny and considerate. They’re all so distinctive that you know who’s talking before you hit the dialogue tags.
So, poor Garrett panics and yanks the worm out of his ear, but… does he get the entire thing out? It’s anyone’s guess! But this is a horror novella after all, so maybe wormy is crafty. Garrett starts feeling not quite himself, and as things get worse for him, I’m just sat here panicking away because I really don’t want anything bad to happen to him. He really is a good guy, his best friend is a good guy, and if something were to happen to either of them…it would be a tragedy!

There’s some extremely dark humour here, a lot of bloody violence, some great body horror elements, and an excellently-paced plot with some interesting perspectives and high stakes. I’d call this one a slam dunk for a horror novella.
I’d recommend it to people who enjoy creature-type features, quick snappy reads, and lots of unhinged violence. If you’d like to get a copy or check out the authors, I’ve popped some links below for you.
