Dark bleatings, my damned tribe! If you follow me on YouTube, you might have seen my recent creator interview with Frazer Lee (author of Damnation: The Gothic Game) and Kris Rees (creator of Damnation, the game Frazer’s book is a novelisation of). If you missed it, you can catch up with it HERE.

Anyway, what I really want to talk about here is the board game. Kris sent me some gorgeous pictures (taken by the very talented Dan Hatch) of what looks like a beautifully designed immersive masterpiece, and I just had to share them with you! Also, the game sounds bloody brilliant, so let me tell you a bit about that too!

Here’s a description of the game, which I borrowed from their website:
A GOTHIC HORROR BATTLE ROYALE IN DRACULA’S CASTLE FOR 2 – 8 PLAYERS
Take on the role of iconic Victorian era villains as you explore a cursed castle, seeking deadly weapons and forbidden powers with which to slay your opponents and claim victory by becoming the final survivor.
Ransack rooms to draw cards that along with your Villain’s unique Talents allow you to avoid misfortune and punish those who would stand against you.
Position yourself next to an opponent to claim the dreaded ‘Power of Adjacency,’ then laugh as you steer them into the castle’s many fiendish traps and hazards.
Slay other Villains to claim their souls, spent at The Dark Tower for monstrously powerful rewards.
In death become a ghost, gambling on the fate of the castle and its occupants for a chance to return to life and claim revenge! Or adopt a very different form as your visit The Vault to become The Vampire, an agile and deadly creature with only a few weaknesses hidden within the castle.

While, we’re here, let me tell you a little something about Kris, too. So this dude, who isn’t actually a game maker by profession, decided that he wanted to make this game one day. It’s based on a much older game, and Kris set his sights on giving it a brand new, unique lease on life. This dude was so dedicated to bringing this about that he spent EIGHT YEARS working on it before it was finally unleashed. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I’ve ever concentrated on something for almost a decade. It’s thoroughly impressive.

He has now founded a game company called Blackletter Games, and they’re currently working on their second board game…which is Guy Fawkes themed. I swear, Ben Langley (author of the Guy Fawkes: Demon Hunter trilogy) is going to lose his freakin’ mind when he finds out.
The utter creativity of this whole venture is immediately apparent when you visit the website, which is a real feast for the eyes, and absolutely glorious. You can take a look HERE.
The only thing I love more than horror is finding other people who totally love and dedicate themselves to horror. I spend the equivalent of a full working week on Happy Goat Horror things every week, and as of yet, am making no tasty tasty dollar bills from it. When I meet someone else who started that way, just following their passions, I can’t help but feel I’ve found a kindred spirit. Kris and Blackletter Games has the full support of the goats, and I can’t wait to get my hands on that beautiful game so I can play it!
And one more time, I’d also like to take this opportunity to promote the book, too. I’ve read 120 books this year so far and Damnation: The Gothic Game is in my Top 15, easily.
