Urgent Help Needed – Thanks Storm Bert, You Asshole

Extremely dark bleatings, my lovely tribe. Unfortunately, this isn’t a book review or a fun, frothy article. Last night, Storm Bert wrought absolute havoc in South Wales, particularly in Cwmtillery. The biblical deluge hammering down loosened a coal tip, causing a landslide with disastrous consequences for the residents of Upper Gwastod Terrace, Lower Gwastod Terrace, and especially the poor folk of Woodland Terrace. As far as I’m aware, no one was hurt, but Woodland Terrace is flooded and many residents in the area were forced to evacuate their homes.

Amongst the startled evacuees are my Mum and Brother. We’ve received word that they can’t return home “for the foreseeable future”, whatever that means. The mountain behind the street is apparently still a landslide risk, and water is still flooding down to the streets below.

I know it’s close to Christmas, and I know we’re already being priced out of life, but if anyone is in a position to donate anything, I’ve put the link for the fundraiser below and I know the people the money is going towards will be so grateful. If you can’t donate, please please could you share the fundraiser. So many people just lost the whole first floor of their homes and everything in it, I can’t even imagine what they’re going through right now.

CROWDFUNDER HERE

Thank you so much for any support you can give, however you’re able to give it. To my local community – I’m so sorry to those badly affected. A huge thank you to the people who have been tirelessly clearing the mess and working to get things back in order, and to our local sports centre for providing a relief centre last night for those who needed somewhere to go.
