In this spin-off novel set within the Zombie Apocalypse, the zombies’ intelligence has increased and they have formed themselves into a society and an army. While New York and Los Angeles have fallen to the walking dead, Washington D.C. is still holding out, but time is running out for the battalions defending Capitol Hill!

Dark bleatings, my undead tribe! I’ve got another zombie book to talk to you about today and this time it’s a spin-off novel set in the world of Stephen Jones’s ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ series. This isn’t my favourite of the three novels that are available, but I did have a great time with it and really enjoyed it.
The virus that renders people quite undead has spread all the way to the USA, and the POTUS and her team are trying to reclaim the Whitehouse. Meanwhile, we also have Ty (who was in the military) living a solitary, lonely life amidst the chaos, and Kevin, who is bitten on his own travels, but mysteriously doesn’t turn into a zombie.
I think reading the Zombie Apocalypse anthologies before picking up any of these novels is advisable, since there is lore that is explored further, In particular, the origin and the cause of the virus is expanded upon, and if you’re unfamiliar with it then there are names that come up that might be confusing.

I was most invested in Kevin’s story because I found him the easiest to identify with, and because he doesn’t turn when he’s bitten, his journey was fascinating. When his story converges with those of the other characters, the ante is upped.
It’s such a fun novel, not only as part of the series but as a separate zombie story in its own right. The stakes are enormous, and the setting of this instalment really gives a great view of the scope of this problem and how far it’s travelled.
I’d recommend it to people who enjoy this universe (and if you’ve not read any of it but you love zombies, you should!). If you’d like to check out the book or the author, I’ve popped some links below for you:
