NYT-bestselling author Tim Lebbon joins Bad Hand Books with a new crime novella! Haunted by the voice of her dead lover, assassin “Dead” Red Virgilio is out for vengeance against former colleague, “Razor” Bill McClintock. And she’s driving into the heart of the Nevada desert to get it. But others who are just as dangerous as Red–The Welshman, The Nun, Max Maximillian, Song for Lemmy, and Amanda Boom–are converging upon the same location with agendas of their own. Will Red achieve her aim and silence the ghostly voice inside her head?

Dark bleatings, my lovely tribe! A quick little review for a quick read today, from one of my very favourites, Tim Lebbon.
Dead Red is an assassin with a vengeance! In her line of work, she’s used to bodies dropping left right and centre (she’s usually the one dropping them), but there’s always a reason. Money, mostly, but whoever’s paying her will have a motive. However, someone from her recent past was killed for seemingly no real reason other than spite, and this is something she simply will not stand for. And thus, we go with her on her mission to hunt down the guy responsible for her woes.
There are shades of Kill Bill, certainly, but without the absolute insanity. Don’t get me wrong, there’s chaos and violence aplenty, I just mean that you won’t be taken out of the world suddenly by a ridiculous truck, for example. What I normally latch onto in Lebbon’s work is character and setting, both of which I think he really excels in. In a novella like this, where we have little time to know our characters, who are always on the move, I didn’t quite get the full effect he normally brings, but it was replaced by impeccable pacing and, well, fun! Instead of hunkering down for 300-400 pages to fear for the lives of the cast, I was on the edge of my seat wincing and chuckling at the carnage.

It’s a really fun, short read, full of brutality to compliment the emotion of it all. I recommend it! If you’d like to check out the book or the author, I’ve popped some links below for you:
